Parent volunteers are always needed to help shelve books; just stop in anytime the library is open. We also need help to run the books fairs. We have a book fair in the fall and in the spring. Please visit the library - I would love to get to know you!

Encouraging Reading
Parents can help their child by encouraging reading, all types of reading. Research has demonstrated a correlation between reading and performance on standardized tests.
Some ways to promote reading:
- Access. Keep reading material (books, magazines, newspapers) on hand and readily available. Take your child to the library and/or the books store.
- Choice. Let your child have a choice in the books they read.
- Time. Provide a quiet time for reading.
- Model Reading. Read and share what you are reading with your child.
The Reading Promise

In the book The Reading Promise, Alice Ozma and her father make a promise to read for 100 consecutive days; they ended up reading, consecutively, for over 9 years.
Make a promise to read to your child for 100 consecutive days (no matter what). They will get a bookmark to track their progress and a Reading Promise Certificate on the wall at the library upon successful completion of the 100 day promise.
School library's role in student achievement
"Research has proven that:
- The presence of a certified/licensed librarian who teaches students how to find and use information and provides reading support results in higher student reading achievement.
- Student access to the school library - measured by then number of hours the library is open - is significantly related to standardized reading test scores and elementary, middle, and high school levels.
- As the staffing, collections and funding of school library programs incrementally increase reading scores also rise" (American Association of School Librarians).
